Dress design for Shabby Apple Dresses

WELL- This semester I am in an Introduction to Fashion Design Class up here at school. I am actually really loving designing! (which surprised me because I can't draw for beans!) In my class we were designing clothes and we decided to enter the Dare to Design contest for the Shabby Apple clothing company. I love Shabby Apple, they provide beautifully stylish modest dresses! Our challenge was to design a Shabby Apple Dress for their Spring Line! I know TOTALLY EXCITING!!!! So here is my dress design, dress inspiration, and color options. ENJOY!

This is the Dress I designed for the Shabby Apple Dare to Design Contest.

This is a Close-up view of the bodice and bow of the dress (On Right). The bow is my true inspiration for this design. Our design class was hosting a Fashion week and I was looking through my closet for "THE OUTFIT". When I stumbled upon my Senior Year Prom dress. On my dress I had worn a beautiful shiny silver ribbon tied in a bow. So I decided to wear the ribbon on my fashion week outfit. Later that night as I was thinking about this competition and a dress design that was beautiful, flattering, and modest, this dress flowed from my hands with the focal point being a big Silver Double-looped Bow.

I love the Spring 2011 Color palette! I think that the earthier tones would look absolutely amazing with this dress style. My initial dress idea was a teal/blue color similar to the picture at left with a silver double-looped bow just below the natural waist with a three tiered design below in a complimentary color shown below.  I believe any of the colors below would be beautiful in this dress design.

Fabric Ideas: I'm not 100% sure on my fabric choices. I'm thinking for the top a Rayon/ polyester/ knit blend and on the bottom a Rayon/ polyester blend. Mostly I want my dress to be cute and flirty without being uncomfortable. I don't want the buyer to have to go home after purchasing my dress and have to adjust it to make it comfortable or modest.
Hope you like it!!!

  1. Aus this totally rocks the house and I would wear it in a heartbeat! I LOVE the colors too! My coloring favors the "warm" colors so if you need a model...I'm all yours ;)
